How to Run

Me. My life. That’s it.

Coming clean & some changes

Okay, so I have not been blogging for a while now and this quite defeats the point and reason I started this blog in the first place. So here are the reasons and a plan, if you like to call it that, for the future of this blog and also my life:

Coming clean:

  1. I stopped blogging because I stopped going to gym and I stopped going to gym because.. Well, that’s the problem – I can’t really remember. I have this nag for postponing things and when I catch myself at a later stage I have no idea what stopped me from reaching the goals I set myself..
  2. There was some trouble at home which I would rather not go into too much details just yet.
  3. I was frustrated personally at myself for a lot of different reasons that I only have myself to blame for.
  4. My body reacted likewise and I was sort of really sick for the last two weeks and I sort of felt sorry for myself and used it as an excuse as well.
  5. The weather was rather kak and I didn’t smaak facing the cold and rain  just for some sit-ups (that’s what I told myself and it’s a very bad excuse).
  6. I was a potato -couch and let myself enjoy it- a bit too much
  7. I was spending unnecessary money on unnecessary things because I didn’t have anything better to do and I am feeling it now as I begin to head for the end of the month with hardly anything left.

Some changes I would like to make to this blog and it’s future content:

  1. In my original post and my about page I stated the purpose of this blog as starting to exercise and getting fit. This while I was still smoking and drinking away to my hearts content.
  2. I have looked at this now and it doesn’t make sense to try and change one thing in your life and expect everything to just go better at once. You have to really put some effort into it and help yourself along the way and stay motivated as well. This is no easy feat – especially going at it alone.
  3. So I am going to make this content more about my life and if that includes gymming that’s fine. I want to make it a sort of journal of my life and all the good and crappy things that happen. I think I’ll add random stuff as well such as my love for Fomula1 and the fact that I love obsessing over small little stupid things that nobody really cares about.

So I’ll try my best (yet again) to keep this blog regularly updated.

The day I quit smoking

I had my last sigarette on the 31st of August 2008. Let’s hope this date never changes.

August!!

So it’s August and I feel like a millions bucks today (not that I have that much) but anyway..

I just feel like today is gong to be a good day because I can see the beatiful clouds and the blue sky and it’s not dark and depressing like right smack in the middle of the winter anymore!

Gareth on 5fm was also surprisingly positive and got positive people to phone in about how they love the country and the good things we can look forward to etc. Like the planned price cuts in fuel of 20c and 100c during August and September respectively! That’s R1.20 which might add up to +/- R60 per tank which you can use to treat your family (or hubby) with something nice (or sexy) for a change!

I also feel good and fresh and got out on the right side of my bed (even though I get can only get out one side?!) and already had my breakfast and coffee and just feel good!

All of this can just mean good things so I hope my and almal wat die blog lees has a great day!!!

PS. Let’s hope everyone I meet today shares my feeling and if they don’t I’ll cheer them up!

Sedick (my boss) is feeling a bit down and sick and fluish today so I wish him the best!

:)

Third time lucky

So I had melksuur in my muscles (or something like that) and I felt like I was falling apart piece by piece the whole day…

I redid all my measurements before I exercised and I got the following:

BMI: 19.5

Body Fat %: 7.8

Weight: 71.2 kg’s

So that makes a teeny tiny difference but it’s cool – I’ll remember to do everything beforehand from now on.

O ja and my blood pressure is now normal enough to actually reveal it:

106/53mmHg

I’m not sure what it means but it is apparently not too bad (maybe a tad low)..

This is what I did:

Exercise Duration Comment
Treadmill 11 min before

8 min after

Starting

Cool down

Cycle 11 min Last minute was cool down
Rowing 5  min I think I could have gone longer..
Cardiovascular Activity 11 min Last min coo down as well
Stepper 6 min The show you how many stories you climb so I aim for over 20

So all seems good for now and I will not be Gymming tomorrow as it’s Lagrotto’s B-Day party! Yippee! I dread the whole school uniform thing though.. It might just bring a flashback or two about all the k*k I caught on at school – in the uniform..

:)

Second

So this wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I had a beer after work and a cigarette or two. Went round about 8 again and started as planned – on my own!!

So I did 10 minutes of each exercise except the rowing – It simply killed me! So much for likey likey..

I left and hour-and-a-half later quite surprised that I didn’t notice the time fly by..

I had quite a cool discussion with one of the outjies at the place after my stint at all the machines. We did this Health assessment and a few interesting stuff came out of it:

1. I am not overweight (I didn’t know!)

2. I am very unfit (no shit!)

3. I very easily lose my sweat towel as we spent almost an entire minute looking for it!

To the serious stuff:

* Body mass index: 19

Apparently perfect is so between 20 and 21

* Body fat: 6.6%

Is that a good or a bad thing?

* Weight: 70.4kg’s

I really thought it was more – I’ve set my goal weight at just over 80!!

* Height:1.91m

I already knew this for obvious reasons – to gloat!

* My blood pressure was taken after my exercise so the Bunnies might contact me with regards to it and “ways to lower it while leading a healthier lifestyle” (hahaha). I’ll take another measurement before my next ‘date’ and we’ll see if I am still in the red – i don’t think so.

I am surprised the entire thing went quite well on my first day out in the wild doing everything by myself – without the guy in red holding my hand evey step of the way. I’m sure it can only get easier (or is that harder) as I learn more and get fitter! Yippee!

:)

Hello

So that was my first post. I am still alive today (the day after).

Please see my About page for more info on me.

I will add more stuff – like links etc – as soon as I think of something useful.

:)

Ignition

This was at 8pm and I was nervous to say the least. Let’s put it this way:

I have never even been in a Gym before (school doesn’t count) and I didn’t know what to do or where to go so I just stood there like a poephol waiting for the guy that was suppose to show me around and work out my ‘master plan for fitness’.

So what I got was the following (after I told him my entire family history and why I had that cigarette before I came to the Gym that is):

Exercise Duration Comment
Treadmill 15 to 20 min Speed 4.0 – 9.0 km/h
Cycle 15 to 20 min RPM 85+ Level 3-6
Rowing 5 to 10 min 30s*/min (strokes?)
Cardiovascular Activity 5 to 10 min Level  3-6
Stepper (Moderate) 5 to 10 min Level  5-7

So over-all for today I did only 5 minutes of the first 4 WARM-UP Exercises and I was pretty much dead.

Dude said I will probably only feel it after two days. I hope not.

So ya, I am posting this late because my home internet is slow – even Google takes almost a minute to load.

My notes on the activities:

Treadmill: This was quite cool as it is pretty much like walking and then we pu the speed up to nine and my heart gets racing and and I feel like I’m running a marathon..

Cycle: If I concentrate hard enough at the TV in front of me I don’t feel the pain in my legs.

Rowing: I actually like this a lot even though keeping it at 30s/min was very hard.

Cross Trainer: This was weird because I think I am too tall for the machine. This worked my stomach so bad I thought I was in a boxing ring with Ali.

Stepper: I don’t know what the point of this is but I makes me very tired!

All of this was just for 5 minutes and tomorrow I have to try the minimum of the times above – let’s hope I survive. :)
